A journey rooted in nature.
I have always found my truest self in the company of nature, working with plants. Whether it's nurturing garden flowers, foraging wild herbs in the forest, or potting up green companions for my home, my connection to the natural world has been an ever-present part of my life.
Cultivating joy in our garden
However, my love for flowers truly deepened with the arrival of my children. With abundant free time during their early years, we spent our days wandering forest trails, eager to identify every plant in our path. Our cabin in the forest provided a haven surrounded by native flora, while a nearby field, teeming with wildflowers taller than my little explorers, became a place of wonder. Here, my children would create their own wildflower bouquets, brimming with Dames Rocket, Daisies, Yarrow, Forget Me Nots, and any other blooms they could gather.
We eventually started our own tiny garden, growing vegetables, Zinnias, and cosmos. It was the Zinnias that captivated our hearts, with their vibrant array of colors and the unending joy they brought to our garden. Despite the challenge of our wet, clay-laden soil nestled deep in the woods, the idea of a flower farm seemed distant due to our soil's quality and location.
Planting seeds of change
Fast forward a couple of years, we made a life-altering decision to sell our woodland cabin and move to a small farm on Bungy Road in Mansfield, PA. We purchased this land in 2022, just a stone's throw from where I grew up. The defining moment came when we explored our property, standing in the field that now stretches as our flower haven. This field was filled with the remnants of chopped-down corn stalks, but all I could envision was a sea of flowers stretching as far as the eye could see. That's when the idea of starting a flower farm took root.
Even before we moved into our new home, our temporary rental apartment was filled with tiny cups of seedlings, and our flower beds were prepped and composted. That inaugural year was a trial run, testing how our flowers would fare in the river-bottom soil. We were overjoyed to see our blooms thriving.
Birth of The Little Petal Co.
This success propelled us to fully commit to the idea of a flower farm, and thus, The Little Petal Co. was born. Today, we cultivate over 50 Dahlia varieties and a diverse array of seasonal cut flowers. Our offerings include fresh, seasonally inspired bouquets, carefully crafted arrangements, U-pick events, and Dahlia tubers.
Every day spent in our flower field sparks new ideas and innovations. We are incredibly excited to have you join us on this beautiful ride through the world of flowers. Thank you for being a part of the Little Petal Co. family.
